2011 Mustang V6 with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing
December 16, 2009 by Justin
Twin independent variable camshaft timing is being introduced the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 engine. The benefits you’ll see with the Ti-VCT is the extremely precise variable control of “valve overlap,” or the window of time in which both the intake and exhaust valves in the engine are open simultaneously. According to Ford manager of V-6 powertrain operations, Jim Mazuchowski, the overlap control via Ti-VCT will help us eliminate compromises in the induction and exhaust systems. Overall you’ll notice improved low-speed torque, increased fuel economy and peak horsepower, something Mustang dragsters have been longing for. There will also be lower emissions with better control of NOx and HC throughout the range of engine operating speeds. In Layman’s terms, it helps reduce atmospheric pollution. This is pretty impressive tehcnology coming from Ford, keep it up!
